Job Description:

The City of Junction City is hiring for an Accountant to join the team! This position is a Full-Time, Union Represented position. Starting salary range is $5,010 to $5,639 monthly salary, ($28.90-$32.53 hourly), range is set to increase by 2.5% to $5,135 to $5,780 as of July 1st, 2023.

General Position Summary:

This position is responsible for a variety of accounting duties including, cash receipts reconciliations, general ledger monthly accounting, expenditure and revenue allocations, internal and external reporting, fund reconciliations, payroll and taxes, and will occasionally back up Court Clerk and reception and other duties as assigned.

An employee in this position often has reason to handle or process confidential information and is expected to maintain confidentiality. An employee in this position performs administrative office and accounting tasks using established policies and procedures as well as significant independent judgment.

Responsibilities:

Processes monthly payroll for the City, maintains payroll systems, reviews and reconciles reports and balances, conducts research, prepares checks and direct deposits and initiates tax and other payroll liability payments.
Prepares and processes Payroll Change Forms
Confirms timesheet entry and approval from all City staff in the timekeeping system, reviews timesheets for mathematical accuracy, compliance with union contracts, personnel manual, and labor laws
Completes required forms, remittance, and reports for payroll payables and benefits.
Calculates and verifies payroll liability amounts, conducts research and communicates with benefit vendors
Prepares, reconciles and submits monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax and benefit reports
Prepares, files, and distributes W-2's.
Maintains PERS (Pension) records including monthly upload, reconciliations and payments.
Balances cash drawer, prepares daily bank deposit and balances totals to cash receipts reporting
Maintains general ledger accounts, reviews financial records for accuracy, prepares adjusting journal entries, posts and reconciles journals, registers, logs, or other records, and conducts research and financial analysis
Reconciles Court financial records and court cash receipts, trust reconciliations to bank balances
Reconciles court cash drawer and makes deposits
Reconciles cash receipts, cash general ledger entries and utility billing adjustments to bank statement
Codes or verifies coding on cash receipts, balances receipts batch totals with bank deposits, prepares and reviews revenue reports, records electronic deposits by journal entry, and reconciles revenue accounts
Records internal services monthly transactions
Prepares and reconciles monthly and quarterly building permit accounting reports and state surcharge reports, and processes required payments.
Assists with budget preparation tasks
Prepare reports and workpapers for annual audit. Gather records and create reconciliations as requested.
Willingness and ability to utilize educational opportunities for software applications and other areas related to primary responsibilities
Prepare and maintain accurate reports and spreadsheets
Apply and maintain internal controls in relation to primary duties of position

Customer Service

Provides customer services to operating departments, answers questions and inquiries related to primary tasks of this position.

Job Requirements:

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent
Additional education preferred which could include college or vocational courses

Experience:

3 years of accounting and bookkeeping experience related to primary job tasks preferred
Use of accounting software programs required
Knowledge of Governmental Accounting beneficial
Progressive experience with computer software programs needed for this position

Work Environment: Ability to perform duties with occasional grasping, twisting, bending, and lifting and carrying up to 15 pounds; frequent standing, walking, carrying, reaching, and handling; and continuous sitting and sensory. This position is generally performed in comfortable conditions. Exposure to different levels of noise with work conducted in open community spaces.
