We are looking for a Protocol Engineer to join our dynamic team and help us scale effectively to accommodate billions of users in the blockchain space.
Your responsibilities will include:
Dive deep into the execution client internals (such as geth and reth) to significantly enhance the capacity and capabilities of these systems.
Create representative loads for rigorous performance benchmarking.
Enhance the OP stack by working on reducing the amount of data required to be made Layer 1 available.
Contribute to key external scaling initiatives like PeerDAS and Danksharding.
We seek candidates with:
A foundational understanding of geth and/or reth internals; a deep understanding of one is highly desirable.
Familiarity with database internals and experience with high-performance database systems.
A grasp of the Ethereum scaling roadmap and a broader understanding of the cryptocurrency landscape.
A proven track record of successfully scaling existing high throughput systems.
Additional skills that would be a bonus:
Experience in software parallelization, including concepts such as optimistic concurrency and operation pipelining.
Knowledge of optimized Ethereum state management approaches, such as Erigon/Reth's flat DB, FirewoodDB, and MonadDB.
A strong understanding of EVM internals and expertise in just-in-time compilation techniques applicable to it.

Salary transparency: The target annual base salary for this role ranges between $152,405 and $179,300 USD. Additionally, full-time offers from Coinbase include eligibility for bonuses, equity, and benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
