This position has up to $1,500 extra pay available upon new employment with WHS as a full-time, Behavioral Health IP PCA/Patient Care Assistant on Nights 7p-7a.
Requirements: 1) CPR Certified 2) Documented attendance in management of aggressive behavior training through WHS 3) Must successfully pass WHS work steps program 4) High School Diploma or GED.
New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required CPR certification.
Summary: The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides direct patient care to both adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient populations. The PCA will maintain an environment which promotes safety and facilitates the most positive outcome for each patient. In promoting a safe environment, the PCA will observe patients who are on special precautions, and document patient observations as the physician order dictates. In addition to observing and documenting patient observations the /PCA will communicate with the nursing staff when patient behaviors or medical status demand further assessment and possible intervention. The PCA will also perform environmental rounds, observing for unsafe patient conditions and will take appropriate action if noting unsafe conditions, hospital property in need of a work order, or contraband in patient rooms. Assisting with admissions, skin assessments, property searches, cataloging patient belongings, transferring patients, assisting with ADLs and hygiene care, taking vital signs, and assisting with discharges are some of the daily functions that the PCA will perform under the direction of the RN. The PCA will perform duties under the direction of the supervising RN and is expected to perform tasks as the needs of the unit and patients necessitate. This includes psychiatric emergency management. As the PCA will be in constant contact with patients and their families they will need to maintain a customer service friendly demeanor. This includes protecting patient privacy in accordance with unit and hospital policy as well as HIPAA regulations. Prefer experience in psychology, social work, behavioral science, or a related field. Prefer minimum of one year of experience in acute care psychiatric setting or a related field.
Reporting Relationships: Reports operationally to the Charge Nurse and Unit Manager. Administratively to the Unit Manager, Chief Nursing Officer, and Program Director.
OSHA Task Category One: There is an occasional risk of exposure to mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes during the performance on the job. Universal precautions must be observed, and protective devices worn by the employee when performing a task that is likely to cause exposure.
