Starting Pay: $31.26 per hour

POSITION OVERVIEW:
In this role, you will be responsible for picking up and delivering freight between service centers and customers while actively supporting the sales process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Drive tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks.

  • Conduct daily pre-trip and safety inspections on your equipment.

  • Efficiently hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from tractors and trailers.

  • Handle freight using appropriate manual and motorized equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.

  • Secure freight inside trailers using the right tools, materials, and methods.

  • Assess and repair damaged freight when necessary.

  • Complete all required documentation and reports accurately.

  • Ensure compliance with hazardous materials regulations and procedures.

  • Collect cash or checks for freight charges as required, maintaining proper documentation.

  • Follow dispatch instructions and maintain communication regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.

  • Engage with customers to ascertain their pick-up or delivery needs and identify opportunities for additional business.

  • Exhibit strong internal and external customer service skills.

  • Seek additional business from customers and provide potential leads to the sales team.

  • Be prepared to chain vehicle tires if necessary.

  • Assist with road driver or dock employee duties as needed.

  • Comply with all applicable laws and company policies/procedures.

  • Perform other tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements required. An automatic transmission CDL restriction is allowed.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years or completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.

  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) per hiring standards.

  • Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations.

  • Long combination vehicles (LCV) operated in specific states need to adhere to LCV Qualification and Certification Minimum Standards.

  • Basic math skills necessary for freight handling.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Capacity to lift and carry freight weighing up to 100 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods and perform physical maneuvers such as bending and climbing in/out of the truck.

  • Willingness to follow instructions and complete required training.

  • Aptitude for working both independently and as a part of a team.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Will drive throughout the shift under various road and weather conditions.

  • Exposure to noise, vibrations, dust, and diesel fumes.

  • Handling of hazardous materials in compliance with DOT regulations.

  • Hours may vary based on operational needs.

  • The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of job offer acceptance.
