Clinical Engineering Manager

To lead and supervise the daily performances of Biomedical Technicians in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Jackson Hospital and Clinic. Perform preventative and urgent, corrective and routine repairs of biomedical equipment. Manager shall assist in maintaining an effective organization, administering budget development, planning, training of personnel in their general and specific duties, safety and effective management. Responds to service calls to evaluate, diagnose and perform repair and preventative maintenance on complex biomedical equipment. Facilitates and ensures safe operation and effective performance of hospital medical devices and systems by conducting approved programs for quality control and assurance. Maintains working knowledge of all biomedical instrumentation and medical devices within designated area of specialization. Assist less experienced technicians on very complicated repair/service as required.

Enhances technical knowledge and maintains knowledge of current standards, codes and procedures regarding safe effective use of medical equipment. May assist more experienced technicians on complex repairs. Occasionally provides support to Biomedical Technicians. May provide in-service training to clinical and medical staff on safe effective use of medical equipment when necessary. Maintains adequate parts inventory for assignments. Documents all actions and submits reports/paperwork according to schedule. Shares on-call responsibility and is required to stay within a one hour response time to Hospital after regular work hours for emergency on-call. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Education: A.S. Degree in Electronics or equivalent formal technical training resulting in an in-depth knowledge of electronic digital circuitry and thorough understanding of electronic and electro-mechanical devices.

Experience: Minimum four years experience as a Biomedical Technician or four to six years related hospital experience resulting in a proven proficiency to independently perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on complex and specialized biomedical equipment following current standards, code and procedures and ensuring safe and effective operation of medical equipment.

Specialized Skills: Proven ability to effectively provide instruction and assistance to Biomedical service personnel and complex problem resolution through independent action, effectively communicate with customers, service technicians and management, follow appropriate hospital protocol and effectively complete administrative requirements of position necessary.
Physical Requirements: Handles loads weighing up to 50 pounds. Walks and stands most of the day. Stoops and climbs frequently. Handles and manipulates tools and equipment. Talks and hears while supervising. Visual acuity to inspect equipment and maintenance tasks. May be required to work long hours in the event of an emergency.
