The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a crucial 19-bed multidisciplinary unit dedicated to providing care for critically ill children, ranging from newborns up to 21 years of age. Our team specializes in treating complex conditions such as respiratory illnesses, trauma, sepsis, neurological disorders, and diabetic ketoacidosis, as well as patients requiring intricate surgical procedures like neurosurgery and pediatric open-heart surgery. You will also be a part of the pediatric critical care transport team, ensuring the safe stabilization and transfer of patients from outside facilities to Albany Medical Center for specialized care.
Hourly Range: $33.00 - $33.99
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Implement physician orders, administer medications, start IVs, perform treatments, and document care in accordance with company policies and regulations.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions.
- Conduct thorough assessments to evaluate patient's needs and responses to care.
- Utilize sound nursing judgment to make informed care management decisions.
- Provide primary and emergency care for various injuries and illnesses.
- Administer medications as per prescriptions and counsel patients on their use.
- Collaborate with the nursing team to develop and implement personalized care plans.
- Guide and direct ancillary personnel while maintaining high professional nursing standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree).
- Current NYS Registered Nurse license holder.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.
- Previous experience as a PCA or in a nursing assistance role is preferred.
- Commitment to continuous education for job performance improvement.
- Knowledge of quality improvement principles and problem-solving techniques.
