About the Unit:

The Colorectal Surgery and Urology Unit consists of 22 semi-private rooms providing specialized care for patients recovering from colorectal and urologic surgeries.

Key Procedures Performed:

• Assist with chest tube insertion
• Central line placements
• Wound vac changes
• Nasogastric (NG) tube management
• Cortrak placement
• Catheter care, including indwelling catheters

The Registered Professional Nurse plays a vital role in assessing, coordinating, planning, directing, implementing, and managing patient care throughout their recovery journey, ensuring focused progress toward discharge during their hospital stay.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Implement physician orders and administer medications, starting IVs, performing treatments, and documenting care per regulatory standards.
2. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patients' conditions.
3. Evaluate patient needs and responses to provided care.
4. Utilize sound nursing judgment in patient management decisions.
5. Administer medications as prescribed.
6. Collaborate with the nursing team to develop comprehensive Plans of Care.
7. Guide and direct ancillary personnel while upholding professional nursing standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Graduate from an accredited nursing program (Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree).
2. Current New York State Registered Nurse license.
3. Certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC.
4. Commitment to continuous education and improvement in job performance.
