About the Unit:
The Colorectal Surgery and Urology Unit features 22 semi-private rooms dedicated to caring for patients who have undergone surgical procedures in these specialties. This is a Post-Surgical setting tailored to support recovery and facilitate a smooth transition for patients.
Key Procedures Performed on Unit:
- Assisting with chest tube placements
- Inserting central lines
- Wound vac changes
- NG tube placements
- Cortrak insertions
- Indwelling catheter management
Role Overview:
The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for assessing, coordinating, planning, directing, implementing, and managing the care of assigned patients throughout their treatment journey. This role emphasizes effective progress towards discharge and transitions within the acute care environment. The nurse ensures that high-quality, compassionate patient care is consistently delivered across various settings, including inpatient, ambulatory, and community care.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Implementing physician orders, administering medications, starting IVs, performing treatments, procedures, and special tests while adhering to policies and regulations.
- Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions.
- Evaluating patient needs and responses to the care provided.
- Exercising sound nursing judgment in decision-making regarding patient care management.
- Administering over-the-counter and prescription medications as per physician orders.
- Collaborating with the nursing team to develop comprehensive Plans of Care for all patients.
- Directing and guiding ancillary personnel while upholding professional nursing standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from a professional nursing program (Diploma, Associate, or Bachelor's Degree).
- Current New York State Registered Nurse license.
- Certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC, obtained and maintained.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuing education.
