Clinical Nurse II - Post Cardiothoracic Surgery

Join a dedicated team committed to providing excellent patient care in our post-cardiothoracic surgical unit. This specialty unit cares for patients undergoing cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiac catheterization, structural heart interventional procedures, and electrophysiology procedures, all of which require a higher level of telemetry monitoring. If you are eager to learn, detail-oriented, and dedicated to high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment, this is the unit for you!

We welcome applicants ranging from new RN graduates to experienced RNs looking to enhance their skill set in a role that offers opportunities for growth and development. While advanced skills such as cardiac rhythm interpretation, vasoactive and antiarrhythmic medication management, and chest tube management are preferred, they are not required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement physician orders, administer medications, start IVs, perform treatments, procedures, and special tests while documenting treatment as required by policy and regulations.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs and responses to care.
  • Apply sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
  • Provide primary and emergency care for various injuries and illnesses.
  • Administer medications as ordered, including both over-the-counter and prescription drugs.
  • Collaborate with the nursing team to develop comprehensive Plans of Care for all patients.
  • Direct and guide ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a professional nursing program (Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree).
  • Current NYS Registered Nurse license.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • 1-3 years of clinical RN experience in Med-Surg or Progressive Care settings.
  • Excellent communication, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of quality concepts and problem-solving techniques, with a demonstrated ability to apply them in support of departmental and patient care quality improvement.
