Join our dedicated team in the Surgical and Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (SICU and Neuro ICU), featuring 30 specialized beds designed for critically ill adult patients (14 and older). Our unit encompasses a balanced 50/50 split of neuro and surgical patient populations, providing an exciting and rewarding environment for skilled nurses.

The SICU and Neuro ICU are focused on managing patients with life-threatening conditions following major surgical procedures, trauma, strokes, seizures, sepsis, and more. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing comprehensive physical assessments and intensive monitoring
  • Administering treatments, managing laboratory values, and ventilator care
  • Conducting hemodynamic monitoring and critical interventions for complicated cases

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Expertise in ICP monitoring, spinal drains, and brain oxygen monitoring
  • Proficiency with various monitoring and treatment technologies such as Artic Sun therapy and continuous EEG
  • Ability to perform bedside procedures including arterial and central line placements, tracheostomies, and more

Key responsibilities:

  • Implement physician orders, start IVs, administer medications, and document treatments as required
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests for patient assessment
  • Collaborate with the nursing team to develop individualized care plans
  • Provide primary and emergency care in a critical care setting
  • Guide and direct ancillary staff while maintaining professional standards

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a professional nursing program (Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree)
  • Current NYS Registered Nurse license
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Knowledge of quality concepts and the ability to apply them for patient care improvement
