The Registered Professional Nurse plays a critical role in assessing, coordinating, planning, directing, implementing, and managing the needs of patients throughout their care journey, with an emphasis on preparing them for discharge and ensuring smooth transitions during their hospital stay. You will be at the forefront of patient care delivery, collaborating closely with the caregiving team to ensure that every patient receives competent and compassionate care in diverse settings including inpatient, ambulatory, and community environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement physician orders, administer medications, initiate IVs, perform treatments, procedures, and special tests; document all treatment accurately.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patients' conditions.
- Continuously evaluate patient needs and responses to care provided.
- Exercise sound nursing judgment in managing patient care.
- Provide primary and emergency care for a variety of injuries and illnesses.
- Administer prescribed medications responsibly and accurately.
- Collaborate with the nursing team to develop comprehensive Plans of Care for each patient.
- Provide guidance to ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program resulting in a diploma, associate degree, or baccalaureate degree.
- Current NYS Registered Nurse license is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained and maintained.
- Previous experience as a PCA or in a nursing assistant role is preferred.
- Committed to improving job performance through ongoing education.
- Possess knowledge of quality concepts and demonstrate proficiency in applying them in patient care and departmental improvement.
The Pulmonary, Renal, and General Medical Unit is a dedicated 28-bed unit featuring semi-private and private rooms. It includes 4 private rooms equipped with oximetry monitoring for respiratory patients, as well as 4 private rooms for patients undergoing I-131 therapy. Our diverse patient population includes individuals with various medical/surgical diagnoses, with a primary focus on pulmonary, renal, and general medical conditions. Typical patient ages range from 18 to 90+, with the majority between 45 and 65 years old.
