The Opportunity
We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer with expertise in semantic data engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and building modern data pipelines and implementing semantic frameworks such as ontologies, taxonomies, and knowledge graphs. Your work will enable intelligent AI applications and advanced data products.
You will collaborate with data architects, AI engineers, and business stakeholders to transform complex business concepts into scalable data and semantic models, facilitating advanced analytics and operational needs.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Data Engineering & Platform Delivery
- Design, build, and operate scalable data pipelines and integrations to support large-scale data architectures in cloud and hybrid environments.
- Utilize cloud-native technologies to create new integrations that manage growing data sources, volume, and complexity.
- Extract, transform, and load data from various sources into a unified format for data users and visualization efforts.
- Establish processes for data reconciliation and ensure data quality monitoring.
- Create unit/integration/performance tests for troubleshooting data-related issues effectively.
- Semantic Data Engineering / Context Engineering
- Develop and advance ontologies and semantic models that represent business concepts and workflows for AI systems and enterprise analytics.
- Build and manage knowledge graphs to support contextual reasoning and entity resolution across domains.
- Define metadata schemas, taxonomies, and contextual rules to enhance data discoverability and reuse.
- Implement and enforce semantic standards in alignment with W3C semantic web standards.
- Continuous Improvement
- Apply CI/CD principles to automate deployment, enhancing code quality, testing, and resilience.
- Evaluate and integrate emerging tools and processes in data engineering and knowledge graph platforms for improved outcomes.

To Qualify for the Role, You Must Have:
- A Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
- Over 6 years of relevant experience in software development, data science, ETL, and analytics.
- Experience of 3+ years with native cloud services like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- 3+ years of experience in the Life Sciences industry.
- At least 2 years of experience in mentoring and leading data engineering teams.
- Expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining data integrations and developing ETL pipelines.
- A proven track record in delivering complex data solutions.
- Experience in programming languages for data engineering (e.g., Python).
- Proficiency in OWL, RDF, SPARQL.
- Familiarity with distributed data technologies (e.g., Pyspark).
- Experience deploying solutions on cloud platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of relational SQL databases.
- Experience with DevOps and continuous integration.
- Proficient in GitHub.
- Exceptional organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understanding of database architecture and administration.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse teams.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting business priorities.

In high-cost areas, like New York, salaries range from $150,700 to $261,600, determined by factors such as education, experience, and skill sets.
