Position Summary

The Controller is responsible to maximize return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.

Specific Educational / Vocational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field; Master's Degree preferred.
Five or more years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3 years of management experience required
CPA license is preferred but not required.
Principle Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
Safeguards assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments
Manages the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, payroll, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, cost accounting, Information Technology (IT), and Payroll.
Develops, improves and issues timely monthly financial records for the Board of Director.
Assures financial plans are consistent with organizational goals.
Provides financial analysis tools to evaluate company ventures or special projects, programs, capital expenditures, products costing, etc. when necessary.
Manages commercial banking relationships to facilitate an appropriate credit resource under highly competitive terms.
Assures that assets are not awkwardly encumbered with personal guarantees or unrealistic commitments.
Works closely with Ownership in the development and economic evaluation of various fringe benefit programs for staff and program components
Interfaces with outside audit firms(s), banks , casualty/liability insurance agent(s), credit card companies, and collection agencies
Provides a visionary and leadership implementation role on behalf of Finance to all departments, creating a well-respected and sought after department goal.
Reports to the Board of Directors when necessary in writing and verbally
Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors.
Maximizes returns, and limits risk, on cash by minimizing bank balances; making investments.
Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
Maintains staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Performs general office duties including, but not limited to, faxing, filing, scanning, and copying.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Exceptional analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully with a wide variety of people at different levels within the organization.
Working knowledge of Sage 300 or applicable software programs
Ability to keep company proprietary information confidential.
Proven ability to manage processes and develop standards.
Aptitude to utilize financial software effectively.
Extensive experience with audit accounting, corporate finance, budget development and tracking.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and above average math skills.
Detail orientated with strong organizational skills.

Environment

Work primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Sedentary, sitting, walking, occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use; frequent stressful conditions (cardiovascular).
