Job Description:
Join our dynamic team as a Director of Electrical Engineering! In this critical leadership role, you will guide a passionate electrical engineering group dedicated to delivering innovative industrial design projects in the chemical, power, utilities, and manufacturing sectors. We are seeking an individual with extensive expertise in designing and retrofitting industrial power distribution systems and substations. Preferred locations: Wadsworth, OH; Columbus, OH; Pittsburgh, PA; Philadelphia, PA; as well as CDM Smith offices in New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and Georgia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Management: Inspire and mentor an industrial engineering team, providing valuable technical guidance and training to junior staff.
- Technical Oversight: Lead the design of complex electrical systems that confidently meet client project requirements.
- Compliance Review: Assess designs for adherence to relevant federal, state, and local regulations and approve completed work.
- Policy Adherence: Ensure all designs comply with company policies and quality standards.
- Site Reviews: Conduct site assessments to align designs with location specifications and update as necessary.
- Knowledge Contribution: Create white papers and technical documentation for innovative designs and pursue publication opportunities.
- Proposal Collaboration: Partner with sales teams to develop compelling proposals in response to RFPs, while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Client Engagement: Work closely with clients to understand their design needs and provide expert technical solutions.
- Industry Visibility: Represent the firm at conferences and symposiums to showcase our services and solutions.
- Primary Contact: Be the key liaison for external clients and industry professionals, addressing technical inquiries.
- Project Updates: Keep the project management team informed with timely progress updates.
- Mentorship: Promote the professional growth of junior engineering staff, preparing them for future advancements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional engineering (PE) license.
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience.
- Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading engineering teams.
- Proven track record in industrial electrical engineering leadership.
- Familiarity with FEL and FEED delivery processes.
- Experience with progressive design-build and design-build delivery methods.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain licenses in multiple states.
- Proficiency in producing detailed engineering estimates.
- Experience managing project budgets and timelines.

Amount of Travel Required: 10%
Pay Range:
Minimum: $133,016
Maximum: $246,043
Additional Compensation: Bonuses are discretionary and may apply to this position.
Work Location Options: Hybrid work options may be considered for the successful candidate.
