Your Role
UKG is looking for a Director of Shared Services Engineering to spearhead a centralized services organization that accelerates high-quality software delivery across engineering teams.
In this role, you will define and implement a platform-as-a-product strategy that embeds quality, automation, governance, and developer productivity throughout every phase of the software lifecycle—from design and development to testing and enterprise release.
You will take ownership of the strategy, architectural direction, operating model, and measurable outcomes for DevOps platforms, Quality Engineering frameworks, and Enterprise Release Management under a unified shared services framework.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the strategy and roadmap for engineering platforms, including CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, automation frameworks, and release orchestration.
Develop standardized, self-service solutions that enable engineering teams to accelerate their transition from code to production with increased confidence, using data-driven metrics for improvement.
Establish enterprise Quality Engineering practices encompassing automated testing for regression, APIs, integration, performance, and non-functional testing.
Embed quality automation within CI/CD pipelines to support informed release decisions.
Define observability standards using logs, metrics, and traces to enhance release readiness and post-release validation.
Simplify release governance via clear readiness criteria, risk controls, and compliance standards.
Guide and mentor engineering managers and senior contributors, fostering collaboration across Product, Architecture, and Security teams.
Promote a culture of automation, experimentation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field is required. You should have 12+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, or Quality Engineering, including at least 5 years in leadership roles focusing on engineering managers and senior contributors.
Proven experience in defining and scaling enterprise Quality Engineering strategies, including automation frameworks and quality governance, is essential. You should have a track record of embedding automated quality validation into CI/CD pipelines for informed release promotion.
Extensive experience in establishing and operationalizing DevOps and Quality Engineering platforms at an enterprise level, including cloud-native infrastructures and CI/CD architecture, is highly valued.
Understanding modern observability practices and their application in post-release validation and engineering insights is crucial. You should demonstrate success in enhancing developer productivity and release reliability across large SaaS environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in managing cloud infrastructure, enterprise integrations, and development teams is advantageous. Familiarity with implementing engineering effectiveness frameworks and AI-driven techniques is preferred.
