Disaster Engineering Specialist:

If you have a passion for engineering and a desire to make a difference in disaster recovery, we need you! As a Disaster Engineering Specialist, you will be at the forefront of assessing and restoring infrastructure impacted by disasters. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough site inspections to document infrastructure damage, which involves taking photographs, sketching site layouts, and writing detailed descriptions of damage.
  • Developing and reviewing scopes of work and cost estimates while ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
  • Analyzing engineering reports, designs, and as-built plans to make informed recommendations.
  • Evaluating claim eligibility and providing guidance on hazard mitigation proposals along with benefit-cost analyses.
  • Working collaboratively with project applicants to prioritize and facilitate their projects, ensuring clear communication throughout the recovery process.
  • Compiling reports and participating in status meetings with FEMA, identifying when technical specialists are needed.
  • Coordinating and performing site inspections that vary in complexity to support the FEMA Public Assistance grant delivery process.
  • Taking on additional relevant tasks as needed.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of real-world experience or 2 years with professional registration.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, able to obtain a FEMA Badge (background investigation required).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
