POSITION OVERVIEW: Start your journey with us by developing your driving skills and gaining expertise in operating tractor-trailer combinations. In addition to driving, you'll have the opportunity to engage in non-driving responsibilities, including forklift operation and dock work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Safely operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
- Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
- Efficiently hook/unhook trailers and convert dollies to/from tractors and trailers.
- Handle freight using various motorized and manual equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies.
- Address and repair damaged freight when necessary.
- Complete required documentation and reports accurately.
- Collect payments for freight charges and maintain related documentation as needed.
- Adhere to hazardous materials regulations and company procedures, ensuring proper placarding matches hazmat shipments.
- Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
- Exemplify excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Engage with customers to clarify pick-up or delivery needs and identify opportunities for additional business.
- Assist by performing road driver or freight handler duties as needed.
- Chain vehicle tires as required.
- Follow all applicable laws/regulations and company policies/procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering this role.
- Possess an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on company hiring standards.
- Meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements as outlined in section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations.
- Ability to perform basic math and counting, with or without a calculator.
- Basic written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Capability to hook up and break down sets of trailers, requiring an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds multiple times a day.
- Able to lift and carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform tasks requiring bending, twisting, squatting, and climbing in and out of the truck.
- Willingness to follow instructions and complete all required training.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Drive during day and night on various roads and in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise and vibration.
- Potential exposure to dust and diesel fumes.
- Exposure to hazardous materials in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Work hours may vary based on operational needs.

Pay: Hourly rate ranges from $26.84 to $31.97, depending on experience and other job-related factors.
