Driver Training and Development Specialist

We are looking for a dynamic and committed individual to enhance our driver training programs. This role is essential in ensuring that our drivers are well-trained and compliant with all relevant regulations while creating a positive and motivating environment for learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver driver training in various formats, including classroom, one-on-one, and hands-on sessions.
  • Utilize diverse instructional techniques such as role-playing, simulations, and group discussions to engage learners effectively.
  • Implement and oversee simulator training programs while staying updated on simulator technology for curriculum development.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, training completions, evaluations, and coaching sessions.
  • Conduct safety-related functions, including accident reviews and skills assessments to promote safe driving practices.
  • Develop specific programs to enhance driver skills using methods like close quarter training and e-learning.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Safety to coach drivers on compliance with DOT Regulations, FMCSR, and company standards.
  • Conduct on-road evaluations to assess drivers’ skills and adherence to regulations.
  • Ensure possession of U.S. Xpress-required certifications and keep professional licensure current.
  • Model safe driving behaviors and maintain professional interactions at all times.
  • Organize and maintain training materials, technology, and classroom equipment while promptly addressing any issues.
  • Complete the U.S. Xpress Professional Driving Program annually.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in training and development delivery required; experience in the transportation industry is a plus.

Requirements:

  • Class-A CDL (Interstate) and active Medical Certification required, or ability to acquire within 90 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of federal and state traffic laws is preferred.
  • Proficient in operating articulated vehicles up to 53' preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%; some overnight travel may be necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate verbally and utilize physical skills in various tasks, including pre-trip inspections.
  • Capable of active engagement in tasks that involve standing, walking, balancing, and handling vehicle controls.
  • Able to perform inspections and adjustments involving crouching, climbing, and reaching.
