Position Summary:

The position is responsible for reviewing grant award application and for providing assurance that the grantees responsibly manage awarded IR USA grant funds, and that the funds are appropriately reaching intended population beneficiaries. The incumbent will audit/review grants awarded, and quantitatively and qualitatively assess the expenditure of grant funds against intended utilization. In addition, the position is responsible for the accurate maintenance and recording of domestic and international grant commitments and payments within the accounting system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Recommends and assists the Board of Directors with IR USA grants to be audited through the grant audit cycle.
Plans logistics, research and process regarding the onsite field audit of grantees.
Performs audit activities onsite at domestic and international grantee-beneficiary locations.
Engages in grant audit activities: Visits project sites, interviews external staff and inspects financial source documents. For International grant audits: The incumbent will visit IRUSA sponsored orphans (where possible).
Analyzes both qualitative and quantitative discrepancies and variances; prepares and shares audit findings; and follows up on prospective grantee issues and findings with grantee management; the incumbent will share findings with Head of Finance, Head of Programs, Legal and the Audit Committee.
Determines if expenditures are reasonable, allowable and allocable.
Reviews International and Domestic grant budget information with Program staff.
Responds to inquiries from Program staff, Executive members, Board of Directors, and administrators at grantee offices.
Defines problems, gathers audit evidence, and evaluates audit evidences leading to effective and justified conclusion.
Ability to speak effectively and present information to grantee, colleagues, and management.
Ability to travel up to 20 percent annually.
Reconciles grant payment cycle through general ledger and program source documents.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
Minimum 2 years experience in auditing or internal audit environment.
Good working knowledge of audit process and controls.
Familiarity with grant reporting.
Excellent technical proficiency in MS Office applications, especially in advanced Excel applications.
Must exhibit strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Must exhibit strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities that are complex in nature.
Good working knowledge of accounting systems software.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and oral communications skills. Effective written communications skills should include experience in generating reports in both quantitative and narrative formats.
Must be eligible to work in the United States.
