The Lead Occupational Therapy Specialist plays a vital role in assisting the Director of Therapy Operations by managing the daily functions of the therapy team. This position calls for strong supervisory abilities, excellent communication skills for fostering interdepartmental relationships, and proficiency in evaluation, assessment, care planning, and treatment within the licensed discipline.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Delegating tasks to and supervising therapist assistants and technicians.
  • Assisting with staffing, scheduling, orientation, and training to ensure that patient treatments are effectively covered.
  • Maintaining seamless communication with hospital departments to meet the needs of patients, staff, and the hospital.

This position is designed for hands-on patient care, with approximately 80% to 90% of work hours focused on direct patient interactions.

The Lead Specialist contributes to a positive hospital culture, supporting the mission by striving to meet or exceed performance goals, promoting accountability among staff, and encouraging professional growth through ongoing mentorship and development.

Qualifications:

  • License or Certification:
  • Current State license as a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Language Pathologist.
  • BLS (CPR) certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • SLP candidates must have completed SLP Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC).
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least three years of experience in the discipline or a leadership role, with a minimum of two years in a clinical setting.
  • Preference for those active on Therapy Clinical Ladder or with specialty professional certification.

Additional Information:

  • This role requires use of general office equipment and proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Competence in visual acuity, speech recognition, and speech clarity.
  • Able to lift, push, and pull objects weighing a minimum of 30 pounds, and assist with patient transfers and repositioning.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with emphasis on active listening.
  • Critical thinking, time management, decision-making, and detail-oriented coordination.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

The working environment is predominantly indoors, with some outdoor exposure, and may involve occasional stressful situations and exposure to blood and body fluids.
