Job Description Work Shift: Second Shift, 4:00 pm-2:00 am Purpose : Set up and operate conventional, CNC, and special purpose machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Set up and use machine equipment, including CNC, milling, boring, drilling, tapping, threading, and lathes. Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and hoists. Utilize JD Edwards, work order routings, parts lists, and work order paperwork to complete jobs accurately. Read, interpret, and utilize blueprints. Deburr parts and perform quality checks before sending parts to the next operation. Verify work using machinist measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers. Maintain tight tolerances as required by engineering and customer specifications. Perform periodic maintenance on all equipment in machine shops. Utilize jigs and fixtures to maintain consistent quality. Program, calculate, and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth/angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or supervisors to resolve machining or assembly problems. Ensure cutting tools and drill bits are in good condition and replace them when necessary. Program CNC equipment utilizing G&M codes and conversational programming languages, with training from the Production Team Lead or a Machinist2. Float to different areas within the machine shop as directed by a supervisor to keep all machining centers on schedule. Execute and support the quality system and procedures to achieve continuous improvement. Principal Accountabilities Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Machine products to engineering specifications and each customer's standards of quality. Education and/or Experience Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Physical Demands Requires standing, walking, manning machinery, and handling materials. Frequently involves moving up to 25pounds and occasionally up to 50pounds. Regular fine motor tasks and exposure to vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
