What We Are Seeking:

The Medical Coding Consultant role is a chance for you to make a meaningful impact in the medical coding field. You will provide crucial consulting services and educational support to healthcare professionals, guiding them to enhance their coding practices. By collaborating closely with healthcare leaders and clients, your efforts will help elevate coding quality, ensure compliance, and optimize service outcomes.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records and accurately assign codes (CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS) in accordance with client expectations.

  • Conduct data quality audits of records to ensure compliance with coding and documentation guidelines.

  • Engage professionally with co-workers, management, and hospital staff on clinical and reimbursement topics.

  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Identify opportunities for documentation improvement and resolve coding issues.

  • Utilize VPN access for efficient and flexible task completion.

  • Adhere to Datavant and HIM Division policies, fostering a culture of compliance and operational efficiency.

  • Maintain your professional credentials by tracking continuing education credits.

  • Participate in mandatory educational meetings to stay aligned with industry best practices.

  • Follow the ethical guidelines established by the American Health Information Management Association, maintaining professional integrity.

Requirements for Success:

  • Eligible for AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC) certification.

  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume coding environment with strong knowledge of CPT II codes.

  • Ability to meet productivity and performance metrics consistently.

  • Adept in remote work, showcasing excellent time management and communication skills.

  • Experience with computerized coding and abstracting software.

  • Must pass annual Introductory HIPAA examination and other yearly tests as required.

The estimated hourly pay for this position ranges from $20 to $28, depending on your skills and experience.
