Job Summary

Battelle's National Security Business Line is seeking a Chemical Engineer to contribute to a technical team focused on advancing Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) in the field of Advanced Energy & Utilities. This position will support the Air Force Civil Engineer Center and is based at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL.

The successful candidate will engage in existing and emerging technical areas that address U.S. Air Force Civil Engineering needs, particularly in expeditionary energy technologies. Key research areas involve Expeditionary Shelter Technologies, Renewable Energy, Expeditionary electrical/power production (including power load management), Energy Storage Technologies, and Corrosion.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct RDT&E projects of moderate complexity, which includes compiling technical specifications, analyzing technical data, determining appropriate analysis methods, identifying issues, and developing actionable solutions.

  • Create test plans, experimental protocols, and technology assessment studies, while managing technical projects.

  • Present research findings and prepare comprehensive technical reports, publications, and presentations.

  • Design, plan, and execute energy and utility experiments efficiently.

  • Assemble various experimental systems, including data acquisition systems and instrument control, along with wiring laboratory-scale devices and systems.

  • Handle orders, receipts, and inventory management for equipment and supplies.

  • Maintain an inventory of laboratory supplies and components.

  • Assist in managing equipment inventory effectively.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field with 2-4 years of relevant experience.

  • Advanced proficiency in LabVIEW and/or MATLAB.

  • Familiarity with cluster modeling and neural network techniques for performance prediction.

  • Understanding of battery chemistries, charge/discharge profiles, state of charge (SOC), state of health (SOH), and electrical impedance spectroscopy.

  • Knowledge of corrosion processes, corrosion inhibitors, coatings, and testing methodologies.

  • A proactive self-starter capable of working both independently and collaboratively.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with experience in MS Windows and Office.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
