Mobile Crisis Response Peer Support Specialist

Location: Cape Girardeau, MO, must be able to travel to other counties within the Community Counseling Center (CCC) service area.
Full - Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Pay Range: $14.42 - 16.82/hour.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, Somewhat flexible on hours.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma / GED / HSE
Must be a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) or be able to become a CPS within 60 days of employment.
Must self-identify as a former or current consumer of mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorder services.
Valid Driver's License and Current Auto Insurance

Job Summary
Mobile Crisis Response Peer Support Specialist perform a wide range of tasks in emergency, outpatient or inpatient settings that are designed to assist clients in recovery and living in the community by sharing their own personal experience in dealing with mental illness.

Essential Functions

Share their personal experience with mental illness/co-occurring substance use and their own personal recovery experience.

Promote the idea and concept of recovery and serve as role model.

Interact directly with clients, both individually and as a group.

Help identify client's individual warning signs and help develop ways to prevent relapse in order to avoid hospitalizations.

Help clients develop insight into their illness and understand their experience with mental illness/co- occurring substance use.

Help clients in developing support systems and connect clients with peer support/self-help groups.

Assist clients in developing self-care skills to promote recovery (i.e., self-advocacy, coping, social, etc.).

Assist staff to understand recovery, the importance of recovery-based services and the value of the experience lived by individuals with mental illness/co-occurring substance use.

Provide client's point of view at team meetings, treatment planning meetings, and psychiatric visits.

Document according to clinical policies and procedures, DMH, CARF, and any other federal or state program per agency standards.

Be an integrated part of the Emergency Services department and participate in team meetings.

Will co-respond as part of a two-person team for Mobile Crisis Response for clients in crisis.

Provide follow-up after care and community support to clients following a crisis episode.

Assist with engagement efforts for clients to participate in outpatient mental health services

Non-Essential Functions

Maintain compliance with all policy and procedures.

Complete all required training.

Work cooperatively with other departments and members of the community.

Participate in all required meetings as determined by supervisor.

Maintain positive attitude toward agency and clientele.

Other duties as assigned.
