The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
Escort patients to proper office or exam room and prepares patient for exam. Inspect and maintain patient's medical record to ensure completeness. Take and record patients' medical history including current medications, allergies, and other required information.
Make necessary outgoing calls. Screen incoming calls and provides message to provider as needed. Check electronic medical record Worklists, voice mail and e-mail messages throughout each day.
Perform tests on patients such as: refraction, measure pupils, color vision test, measure depth perception and peripheral field of vision. Take certain eye measurements by using keratometer and tonometer; use lensometer to neutralize glasses for lens power. Apply drops as directed to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes; measure dryness of eye. Perform intravenous fluorescein angiography (diagnostic photography) in a skillful and consistent manner (training provided)
Instruct patients as directed concerning eye care, pressure patch, and other eye treatments
Schedule surgeries as directed by provider, complete pre-certification form and send all required paperwork to appropriate facility.
Order ancillary tests per provider's orders. For tests performed outside of QMG, ensures results are given to provider for review. Follows up on Overdue Folder and contact patients to reschedule tests as needed.
Keep office area clean, orderly, well stocked, and monitor supplies for expiration date. Sterilize instruments and equipment according to clinic policy. Assist in maintaining equipment according to manufacturer recommendation. Remove and tag broken equipment and notifies coordinator. Practice OSHA safety standards with proper disposal of biohazard waste. Follows all safety standards for patients, employees and visitors.
Sterilize contacts, according to clinic policy; keep office area clean, orderly and well stocked. Responsible for ordering, receiving and delivering contacts for all the department providers and is responsible for keeping abreast of and communicating with staff the contact lens changes and the billing and price changes, discontinued items and new brands available.
Attends and participates in mandatory in-services and meetings.
Acts as a patient coach to patients including vulnerable patient populations by offering self-management support and care coordination.
Cross covers co-workers hours and duties as needed.
