Patient Care Technician Job Summary
The patient care technician worksunder the direct supervision of the licensed professional nurse to carry outtechnical and patient care treatment activities. This individual performs avariety of patient care duties and operates a variety of equipment necessary inthe care of dialysis patients. The PCT delivers prescribed dialysis treatmentaccording to physician orders, nursing assessment and Pure Life Renal policy andprocedure.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Related:
Provide direct patient care for assignedpatient(s).
Perform all technical aspects of dialysisprocedures for assigned patients as prescribed. Administer and monitortreatments in accordance with current treatment orders or as directed by thesupervisor.
Monitor and document dialysis treatment notesper policy in electronic medical record.
Responsible for reporting any significantinformation, change in patient condition, or equipment problems.
Assist with all emergency operationalprocedures.
Initiate basic CPR measures in the event ofpatient cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest, and respond to emergencies.
Technical:
Proficiently operate all dialysis relatedequipment according to policy and procedure.
Provide minor troubleshooting when necessary.
Ensure a clean, safe and sanitary environmentin the dialysis facility treatment area.
Operate all emergency equipment effectivelyand according to policy and procedure.
Staff Related:
Participate in staff meetings as scheduled.
Participate in scheduled in-service classesand continuing education.
Other:
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
Dialysis experience preferred but notrequired.
Certification: The PCT must be certified as ahemodialysis technician by a nationally accepted certification exam within 18months of date of hire (PLR prefers within 12 months of hire and will help youobtain this certification).
Successfully complete CPR Certification.
Employees must meet the necessary requirements of Ishihara's ColorBlindness test as a condition of employment.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
