Payroll Clerk

The Payroll Clerk shall be responsible for administering payroll and maintaining employee time records.


Minimum qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent.
Two years of payroll experience preferred.
Experience in Paylocity preferred.
Proven ability to use accounting software and windows systems including Microsoft Excel.
Proven ability to handle confidential information and work with minimal supervision.
Typing skills including 10-key required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Proficient in word processing and have excellent computer skills, in addition to the use of automated equipment and software.
Ability to speak and write effectively and to analyze, edit, review, and interpret complex material.
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with other departments and organizations.
Thorough knowledge of budget and administrative practices and procedures.
Good keyboarding skills required and ability to perform difficult data entry duties.
Thorough knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, statutes, ordinance, and codes.
Ability to prioritize.
Thorough knowledge of payroll practices and techniques.
Be service-oriented with the ability to pay attention to details in a fast-paced environment and work professionally over phone and email with staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Collect, compile and enter payroll data using appropriate software.
Calculate and post payroll deductions.
Process and close bi-weekly and supplemental payrolls by established deadlines.
Process garnishment and levy requests.
Issue statements of earnings and deductions.
Reconcile employee deductions.
Prepare and print payroll reports of earnings, hours worked, taxes, insurance and leave.
Complete requests for pay related documents including statements and verifications.
Produce federal and state tax payments.
Reconcile payroll reports to general ledger accounts.
Develop, manage and maintain comprehensive payroll records.
Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and guidelines.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned or as needed.

Other Responsibilities:

Carries out the functions and responsibilities of the office by performing and coordinating high-level administrative support services. The Payroll Clerk works in an extremely fast-paced environment performing a variety of administrative and support functions. Duties are varied and confidential in nature.
