Purpose:
The primary purpose of the Pet Grooming Specialist is to provide expert grooming services that include bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning. You will prioritize the safety and comfort of pets and ensure high customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties:
- Perform professional grooming services with or without supervision, aligning with the pet parent’s wishes and breed standards.
- Use and maintain grooming instruments, including clippers, shears, and dryers.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of each pet, monitoring for discomfort, illness, or injury.
- Assess the individual needs of pets based on their coat type, skin conditions, and temperament.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, responding to inquiries and providing grooming advice.
- Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and home care practices.
- Maintain a clean grooming area and adhere to hygiene policies.
- Know and apply Petco’s grooming protocols to guarantee safety and quality standards.
- Support and train new grooming team members.
Qualifications:
- Completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program or prior experience as a groomer.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills in grooming situations.
- Attention to detail to achieve optimal grooming outcomes.
- A genuine passion for animals and commitment to a grooming career.
- Proficient knowledge of dog breeds and grooming techniques.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with team members and pet owners.
- Ability to handle a variety of pets with empathy.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Work Environment:
This position takes place indoors in a grooming salon where you will be bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. You will also interact with pet parents and other team members in a lively, occasionally loud, and wet environment.
