PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The pharmacy intern position is designed to develop a knowledge base and competency level while
performing pharmacy functions under the direct supervision of the PIC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Customer Service
• Greet each customer in a polite and professional manner.
• Assist all dispensary customers with their questions and concerns.
• Maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPPA and company standards.
Operations and Inventory
• Comply with all state laws, rules and regulations.
• Comply with policy and procedures.
• Ensure quality assurance standards are maintained at all times.
• Access, input, and retrieve information to/from the computer.
• Process orders and perform pick-up procedures according to policy and
procedures.
o Validate customer.
o Product selection and labeling.
o Make offer to counsel and direct patient to pharmacist if applicable.
• Perform all register transactions.
o Includes cash transactions and discount processing.
o Bag merchandise upon completion of sale.
• Maintain a clean, organized and professional dispensary department, according to company standards
• Ensure all inventory management policies and procedures are followed.
• Pull outdated, damaged and recalled product and prepare for disposal.
• Complete all required training and compliance programs within designated timeframe.
• Provide medication counseling and patient education.
Student Responsibilities
• Complete quality improvement projects.
• Participate in a variety of educational experiences, including but not limited to clinical presentations,
patient case presentations, and job fair participation.
• Report weekly data on productivity.
• Other duties assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

Required:
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Virginia State Board of Pharmacy intern license.
• Must have completed 1st year of pharmacy school.
Preferred:
• 1+ years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer
service setting
Education:
• Bachelor's degree.
• Must be currently enrolled as a full time student at an accredited school or college of pharmacy.
Skills:
• Effective verbal communication.
• Ability to move quickly from one task to another according to the needs of the dispensary.
• The ability to concentrate on a task for significant periods of time.
• Wrist/finger speed; ability to make fast, simple, repetitive movements of the fingers, hands, and
wrists.
• Good math and computer skills.
