POSITION SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Technician II will prepare and distribute medication within Elliot Health System.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all roles and responsibilities of Pharmacy Technician I, including medication delivery, automated dispensing cabinet management, medication repackaging, floor inspections and phone triage, in addition to the IV room roles described below for the Technician II position.
Apply knowledge of United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) Chapter 797 Pharmaceutical Compounding of Sterile Preparations. Compound intravenous medications according to USP 797 Pharmaceutical Compounding of Sterile Preparations, utilizing aseptic technique.
Ability to use technology such as barcode scanning and camera verification to ensure medication safety.
Process and prepare all patient specific medications as per provider order for pharmacist check. Utilize parenteral nutrition compounding technology to compound total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
Maintain successful biannual and annual sterile compounding competencies including fingertip and media fill testing, hand hygiene and garbing, didactic learning and others required by USP 797 or otherwise assigned by the hospital.
Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) to prioritize and prepare sterile compounds in accordance with patient medication orders.
Perform required daily, weekly, monthly cleaning of the IV rooms in accordance with USP 797.
Maintain adequate par amounts of medications and supplies within the IV room.
Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Knowledge of current hospital practice standards required.
Knowledge of New Hampshire drug laws required.
Ability to perform basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) required.
Basic level knowledge of and skill in Epic Willow Pharmacy System, as well as Omnicell automation experience preferred.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others including pharmacists, nurses, administrators, managers, vendors and other health care industry personnel.
Ability to problem solve and adapt to unexpected workflow interruptions, as well as ability to self-evaluate and identify opportunities for developing skills to be successful in role.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience: One year of pharmacy experience or completion of Pharmacy Apprenticeship Program required. Experience with sterile compounding required. Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure: Certified Pharmacy Technician required. Sterile compounding certification required.
