Reporter: Local Government & General Assignment
Job Posting: The Daily Catch, an independent, online, non-profit newspaper serving the Hudson Valley towns of Rhinebeck and Red Hook, seeks a full-time staff reporter to cover local government, features, and trends.
Duties:
- Cover Board of Education, Town Board, and Planning Board meetings, several times a week .
- Report and write feature and trend stories.
- Use social media tools to find stories.
- Produce weekly beat notes detailing story plans/ideas for week ahead.
- Take photographs on your mobile phone for all stories you report.
Requirements:
- 1 year of journalistic work experience and clips to show it. Where significant aptitude is shown, The Daily Catch will consider applicants with less experience.
- A car and driver's license.
- Strong, accurate reporting and note-taking skills.
- Intense curiosity.
- Excellent time management.

About Our Area: Red Hook is a community of rolling farms, home to Bard College and a thriving arts and music scene. On Amtrak, New York City is 80-90 minutes away. Rhinebeck, 5 miles to the south, is the site of marvelous restaurants, history and beauty.
Salary and Benefits: $42,000-$50,000, commensurate with experience and talent. 15 PTO days per annum, to be used at the employer's and employee's mutual discretion. Flexible work schedules can sometimes be accommodated.
Housing: Affordable apartments are available in the Village of Tivoli (in our coverage area; home to many Bard students and recent Bard grads) and in Kingston, 20 minutes away on the west side of the Hudson River.
Hours: 40-hour week, including coverage of night meetings, typically 2 per week, and some weekend events.
