Position: Senior Accountant
GENERAL FUNCTION:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position reports to and is back up for the Controller and various other accounting positions. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: Treasury/cash management duties, fund accounting for grants, contributions and restricted cash: balance sheet reconciliations; monthly financial statement preparation and analysis; account analysis, reconciliation and reserves, and budgeting/ forecasting; general ledger maintenance, monthly closing, process improvement/change management; audit, financial statements, and various filing requirements; and other accounting functions as assigned. Also responsible for audits and various ad hoc and ongoing projects and analysis as assigned to support the Controller and accounting functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Treasury/Cash Management and Fund Accounting
Maintain restricted and reserve fund schedules to comply with various grants, contributions, trusts or management designated reserve policies/contracts.
Responsible for daily banking activity to move funds between restricted and operating accounts and line of credit utilization.
Manage draw down of various grant funds
Manage review and accounting interpretation of accounting treatment and compliance with all grants in line with FASB and GAAP
General Ledger Maintenance and Closing
Compile and analyze information throughout the month and prepares timely journal entries to drive towards an efficient and effective closing process.
Review financials for accuracy and completeness to proactively resolve issues and assist with the preparation of preliminary financial statements for leadership
Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly and resolve variances and discrepancies by working with staff to resolve problems and provide supporting documentation for corrections.
Supports Controller with the month-end close process
Account Analysis, Reconciliation, Reserves, & Budgeting/Forecasting
Analyze and reconcile daily, weekly, monthly and annually data sets to ensure alignment of Bank, Billing System, Customer accounts and General Ledger
Maintain and provide account analysis on receivable aging
Establish policies and procedures for various grant accounting and reporting
Support cash forecasting (Short-Term and Long-Term)
Assist with budget preparation
Perform data projections or relevant research as assigned
Process Improvement/Change Management
Drive continuous improvement thru problem identification and resolution of systems improvements
Review/Update/Setup Accounts Receivable process and procedures to improve efficiency and implement any changes if necessary
Annual Audit, Financial Statement Preparation and Various Filing Requirements
Meet accounts receivable financial standards by providing annual accounts receivable budget information; monitoring trends; identifying variances; and suggesting corrective actions
Assist with year-end closing, working schedules for annual audit and research and supporting documentation required by auditors.
Maintain financial security by adhering to and auditing internal accounting controls
Support annual financial statement preparation for management, the Board, and outside agencies.
Maintain records, and assist in preparation of various internal and external reports, including reports for various federal and state agencies, YUSA reporting, and IRS Form 990 tax return for review by the CEO and board.
Other functions as needed
Maintain documentation of processes, policies and procedures.
Backup for other accounting positions and other general accounting functions
Other accounting as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required 4 year Degree in Accounting
Minimum of 2 years of experience with Fund/Grant accounting
Excellent data management and Microsoft skills
Experience with banking and treasury systems highly preferred
Experience with contract interpretation for accounting treatment
Understanding of GAAP, Fiscal policy, audit and other regulatory requirements
Candidates must have A/R and A/P experience, excellent communication and customer service skills
Preferred work experience in audit of Non-Profit Organizations
Financial analysis and budgetary experience
Process improvement/change management experience

Great attention to detail and well organized
Solves problems effectively
