Your role and responsibilities
As a Senior Data Governance Consultant, you'll collaborate with data teams to develop and implement comprehensive data governance frameworks, policies, and standards. Your mission will be to instill robust data governance principles across various business domains within our client organizations, fostering unified and effective data governance to enhance overall data quality. Success in this role hinges on cultivating strong partnerships with both business and IT stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess extensive data governance expertise, sharp business acumen, and the ability to ensure stewardship of critical data assets.
This role can be performed from anywhere in the US. As of April 2025, Hakkoda will merge with IBM, making IBM your hiring entity.
Required technical and professional expertise
- 7+ years of relevant data governance or data management experience (operating models, master data, metadata, data quality, data modeling, and data standards).
- 5+ years of leadership experience in enterprise data governance development.
- Proven ability to devise recommendations that enhance accountability, data quality, and adherence to data policies and standards.
- Experience driving data governance solutions across various business lines, technology, and platforms.
- Proficient in conducting data audits, identifying data collection issues, and implementing improvements.
- Understanding of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sources, with at least intermediate SQL skills.
- Experience defining and executing data management frameworks aligned with business and technology strategies.
- Familiarity with data governance and data quality tools such as Collibra, Atlan, Alation, and IBM watsonx.data intelligence.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the capacity to make informed judgments.
- Ability to create essential artifacts for workshops, interactive sessions, and client approvals.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong presentation abilities.
Preferred technical and professional experience
- Experience designing and implementing data governance and data management processes, particularly in data quality and metadata management.
- Background in stakeholder analysis and communication, with experience developing and executing communication plans for data governance initiatives.
- Experience collaborating with technical teams to implement data quality rules and automate monitoring and reporting.
- Expertise in using data governance technologies for data quality and metadata management, including issue tracking processes.
- Experience creating and implementing sophisticated metadata management repositories for effective data quality reporting and dashboarding.
- Technical collaboration experience, particularly in integrating data governance processes with existing systems.
