BWBR is on the lookout for an experienced Senior Healthcare Planning Leader to shape the future of healthcare design for our clients and the firm. This pivotal role combines extensive planning knowledge, leadership, business development skills, and industry presence. Ideal candidates are seasoned healthcare planners who understand the intricacies of winning projects, building trust with healthcare executives, and translating planning excellence into lasting client relationships.
In collaboration with Principals-in-Charge (PICs) and the Healthcare Market Practice Leader, you will play a crucial role in opening doors, leading strategic pursuits, excelling in interviews, and guiding intricate planning processes after successful project wins. Internally, this position aims to raise practice standards and assist in mentoring the next generation of healthcare planners.
This is a comprehensive leadership role that extends beyond planning to influence strategy, business development, and thought leadership.
Planning Leadership and Project Execution
- Lead as the principal healthcare planner on significant projects that are vital to the firm's healthcare growth strategy.
- Provide hands-on leadership throughout the planning process, including visioning, clinical and operational analysis, space programming, functional planning, and executive stakeholder validation.
- Guide stakeholders through complex decision-making that encompasses various service lines, user groups, and stakeholder priorities.
- Ensure planning solutions are operationally sound, technically accurate, and defensible at the executive and board levels.
- Establish replicable planning frameworks and methodologies across key projects within the healthcare practice.
Thought Leadership and Industry Engagement
- Represent BWBR at national and regional healthcare conferences, professional organizations, and industry events.
- Engage in speaking opportunities, panel discussions, and committees to strengthen BWBR's industry visibility and credibility.
- Contribute to thought leadership via writing and content creation for both internal publications and external outlets.
- Position the firm in specific healthcare sub-markets such as critical access and rural healthcare, academic health, pediatric care, women's and children's health, oncology, neuroscience, outpatient care, and ambulatory surgery centers. Expertise in additional emerging markets is welcomed.
Development of Tools and Knowledge
- Lead the creation of healthcare planning tools and internal resources in collaboration with BWBR's Healthcare Community of Practice.
- Contribute to the evolution of benchmarking databases and planning standards.
- Ensure accessible and scalable planning knowledge aligned with firm strategy.
Team Leadership and Mentoring
- Mentor the Healthcare Planning team with a focus on professional development, accountability, and planning excellence.
- Support mid-career planners and designers in their career growth.
- Assist in establishing consistent standards, tools, and best practices across the planning practice.
Key Responsibilities
Market and Practice Leadership:
- Collaborate with PICs and the Healthcare Market Practice Leader to shape healthcare market strategy and pursuit positioning.
- Act as one of BWBR's senior subject matter experts in healthcare planning, programming, and medical space strategy.
- Enhance market presence by building trusted relationships with healthcare executives, system leaders, and construction and engineering partners.
- Provide strategic insights into healthcare trends, care delivery models, operational changes, and capital planning.
Business Development and Pursuits:
- Contribute as a vital team member on healthcare pursuits with a focus on:
- Strategic development and positioning.
- Planning narratives and value propositions.
- Interview preparation and executive-level presentations.
- Collaborate with marketing teams on proposal content, messaging, and presentation graphics.
- Mentor teams on effective pursuit strategies and interview techniques.
- Act as a key team member during interviews, contributing to a successful outcome.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or a related AEC discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in healthcare design and planning.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in healthcare planning and client engagement.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, space standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven aptitude for presenting concepts clearly to executive leadership and user group stakeholders.
- Significant experience contributing to pursuits, client interviews, and business development initiatives.
- Architecture licensure preferred.
- ACHA certification and/or EDAC (or similar accreditation) preferred.
