Schedule/Hours: Full-time, evening shifts consisting of 8 or 10 hours or Mon-Fri with on-call duties (most overnight) with around 5-8 call slots and 1-2 weekend call slots every 8 weeks. Call hours may vary based on staffing needs; arrival within 30 minutes is required.
Job Description
- Major Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient operating area for optimal patient care. Utilize aseptic techniques for preparing materials, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
- Assist with gowning, gloving, setting up the surgical area, and providing instruments, sutures, and materials during procedures.
- Perform various procedures while maintaining knowledge of many surgical techniques.
- Ensure the operating room's environmental safety and efficiency by setting up and returning equipment post-procedure.
- Function as a Second Assistant when required.
- Report any equipment or supply issues promptly.
- Transport patients, supplies, and equipment as needed.
- Maintain specialty carts ensuring completeness and sterility of items.
- Perform patient positioning and transport duty with proper lifting techniques.
- Demonstrate knowledge for providing care based on patients' age-specific needs.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association is required within 6 months unless exempt.
Education Required:
- Completion of an accredited program in Surgical Technology.
Experience Required:
- No prior experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Understanding of aseptic surgical techniques and equipment used in the operating room.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Annual education for hospital-based certifications is required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
- Must lift: up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist; up to 20 lbs. overhead; and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform sliding transfers of 150 lbs. with assistance.
- Use of foot pedals is required.
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids.
- Must have functional sight and hearing; PPE like masks, gloves, goggles, and gowns are required.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, and twisting are part of the job.
- Must operate all necessary equipment for job duties.
