Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department night shift position requiring a NM or compact RN license and ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.
Responsibilities
- Work in a community-based hospital Emergency Department
- Night shift schedule with 4x12 hour shifts from 18:30 to 7:00
- Every other weekend required with a minimum of 3 weekends per 6-week schedule
- Patient population includes medical-surgical, respiratory, GI/GU, cardiac, neuro, minor trauma, OB/GYN, and pediatric emergencies
- Handles initial care for strokes, STEMIs, major trauma, and pediatric cases prior to transfer
- Special procedures performed include chest tubes, thoracentesis, paracentesis, rapid sequence intubation (RSI), splinting, procedural sedation, restraints, vacuum D&C, central lines, and ultrasound-guided IVs
- Equipment used includes Rapid Infuser, EZ IO, Lifepack 15 and 20, GE Monitors, GE EKG, and Glidescope
- No floating required unless specified; travelers may float to like units within their scope with brief orientation
- Epic charting experience is preferred
- Modules and orientation are completed onsite
- Works alongside a team that includes 24/7 ED physician coverage and 2 midlevels during peak hours
- Team structure generally includes a charge nurse plus 2-3 RNs, PCTs, and LPNs depending on shift
- Scrub color may be any color except logos are not permitted
- Up to one RTO request per contract with a maximum of 3 days auto-approved (no RTO allowed during orientation)
- No travel pairs or groups accepted
Requirements
- Active NM or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
- 2-3 years of recent acute or progressive Emergency Department RN experience required
- First-time travelers must have 2-3 years of experience in progressive or acute ER
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Former perm staff must have at least 1 year separation before returning as a traveler
